Self-Watering Irrigation System with Internet of Things (IoT) Technology by Vincent Rodriguez

Abstract

The idea behind the project is developing an IoT system that can continuously monitor and measure the current conditions of one or more plants with the purpose of watering them in an efficient manner and thus minimizing the water usage. This data would be gathered by the system through soil and air humidity sensors. Data will be transmitted to another device with the purpose of storage, processing and control. The system will process the data collected and then water the plant(s) according to current environmental needs.  The system can be scaled up to monitor many plants at the same time and will either function indoors or outdoors. Each plant would have sensors monitoring it and a reservoir to provide water when needed. The monitoring and controlling device will serve as the storage and command center.  The system also notifies the user when its time to refill the reservoirs so the watering schedule can continue without interruptions.
