Statement

For this piece, I wanted to focus on the right to education by representing a symbolization of being stripped of information. To me, knowledge is power. The more you know, the more you can understand about the world and the more you can defend yourself. If we are denied valuable information and our society is not being told the truth, that would make us blind to our reality and vulnerable to what’s really going on. This also applies to being exposed to false information, which we are exposed to all of the time in this era of technology and spread of misinformation. I’ve created a piece online with the use of Roblox studio, as, with this, I’m able to build a set and make it as detailed as I can, since I am more comfortable using digital media instead of regular drawing. I was able to build together a representation of a person with the “torch of knowledge” and a book as well, symbolizing that this person has plentiful amounts of information and “power”. The other characters are trying to reach it desperately, and since they do not have the same knowledge and power as the person on top, they are literally “chained” by their blindness and can be seen in a poor state of being, while the person on top is untouched and above all else. The message you can take from this is that knowledge is all-powerful. You might also interpret this as leaders who have more knowledge might abuse and control those who do not.
