Statement
In this piece of work, I wanted to convey the freedom of slavery. I refused to go for a straightforward approach, like an African American in shackles, but an African American postured in a hopeful manner. With that, I wanted to include a background similar to that of the American flag. I believe when you look at this piece of art, you’ll see a glimpse of hope and also America's biggest shame.
