Catherine Hernandez: Article 4 - Mixed Media on Paper
Statement
In the process of making my art, I wanted to make the expression angrier to show that, even though they were muzzled, they are annoyed. I made the skin red to demonstrate the fury that they hold. This is supposed to represent minorities and how we are free but not entirely. The dark eye-bags are supposed to show how tired we are, especially those who have protested peacefully for years only to be met with arrests and violence. I wanted to question “Freedom of Slavery”. Are we really free when so much oppression and discrimination still exists primarily affecting minorities?
