Sofia Martinez is a 2nd year Honors College student at Miami Dade College majoring in psychology. Sofia constantly finds ways to cater to each of her diverse passions: environmental sustainability, animal welfare, sociology, and psychology. Sofia works amongst the Kendall Campus Sustainability committee to cultivate initiatives that promote an eco-conscious college environment such as petitioning against styrofoam usage, advocating for e-waste management, working on the revival of the campus compost system, managing food waste, recycling practices and more. Using the testimonies of the many self-sacrificing Latina mothers that stood generations before her, she builds her personal and academic identity through women empowerment and social advocacy. Her educational path focuses on psychology, sociology and the studies of women, gender and sexuality where she strives to create a future serving forgotten communities.
