Richard Llorente is a second-year student at the Miami Dade College Honors College at the North Campus, where he is currently majoring in History. The ever-changing interactions between geographic and socioeconomic factors which have engendered the various civilizational, political, technological, and ideological currents of the past have, since preadolescence, fascinated him beyond compare, although he now intends to focus these efforts onto the ancient Mediterranean, in his pursuit of the Classics. This latter development has led him to study Classical Latin via the Lingua Latina series of texts for autodidactic purposes, and under the instruction of the Oxford Latinitas organization, although he aims to soon pursue such studies in a more formal context. Since having enrolled thence, Richard has participated in various events both outside of and with the College, including as an active member of AXIS; an usher for the 2023 and 2024 Miami Book Fairs; a student of the 2024 Washington Center Seminar, in which he was able to receive important commentary on the state of American politics while appreciating the neoclassical influences of the District of Columbia’s architecture; and as the founder of the website Latinum Lege, which aims to make the study of Latin more accessible. When his mind is not lost in the goings-on of yesterday, or absorbed by the flourishes of ancient authors, Richard delights himself with reading, drawing, and delectable strolls about Joe Sherron Park.
