Amanda Torrecilla is a first-year student at The Honors College at Miami Dade College where she is pursuing a chemistry major, hoping to become a pharmacist. Torrecilla is a recipient of the Miami Dade College Honors Fellowship Scholarship Award as well as the Florida Academic Scholars Award. Torrecilla has been a research intern at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens for two years, studying endangered Red Mangroves due to the widespread infection of a fungal pathogen known as Pestalotiopsis. Upon arriving at the Honors College, she became an active member of the Changemaker Education program, volunteering in numerous events hosted by this department. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Tri Beta Biology Honors Society, and Math4U as well as being a two-time participant of the IREX Global Solutions Sustainability Challenge. In the future, she is interested in starting an American Chemical Society Chapter at her campus. She is also a prospective participant in the South Florida Research Consortium’s 2025 Undergraduate Research Internship Program at the University of Miami. Torrecilla’s main goals after graduating with her A.A. in chemistry are to attend pharmacy school, focus her career on researching alternative medicines, and help decrease the rates of drug addiction.
Miranda Hernandez is a first-year student at The Honors College at Miami Dade College where she is working towards a psychology major in hopes to become an occupational therapist. She is a proud recipient of the Miami Dade Honors Scholarship. Hernandez is a member of clubs such as Phi Theta Kappa, and the Psychology Student Association. Her important goals to focus on after graduating from Miami Dade College is to get a masters to become a licensed occupational therapist who can someday own her own practice.
