Sophia Perez-Guillen is a freshman at Miami Dade Honors College, and she is majoring in biology. Sophia has always grown up advocating for the environment and animals. Even raised in a Hispanic household, Sophia still decided to go vegan for the animal ethics component of it. Sophia is undecided on which aspect of biology she wants to pursue her degree in, but she is leaning towards a pre-veterinary track. She began fostering and rescuing animals since the beginning of the pandemic, which led her to be a voice for animals, and advocate for environmental issues as well. She wants her career to be directed towards helping the environment, whether it’s wildlife animals, domestic, or just environmental conservation. For fun, Sophia likes to travel through different countries and sit in nature. During her first year at the Honors College, she was accepted to attend a week- long retreat in Tennessee focusing on environmental conservation and protection. Miami Dade college has offered her a lot of opportunities, and a very important club in which she can partake in action and help educate others about the environment. Overall, Sophia is the kind of person who sits in nature, and takes in the beauty of this earth.
