Write It Out to the Finish Line: Competitive Writing and Collaborations for Accelerating Students
Teresa Cusidor, Instructional Assistant II, Learning Resources, Padrón Campus

Higher-education contains no shortage of competition nor competitors, and students find themselves with more shortcomings than advantages when it comes to writing for transfer. Writing centers have the expertise and knowledge to help students stand out while guiding students to find the right perspective. This presentation will discuss how tutors can help students cast themselves as scholars and professionals with unique experiences. Additionally, we will discuss successful partnerships with student leadership and faculty mentoring programs to create a rigorous scholarship/university application assistance program for all students at Miami Dade College.

Objectives

  • Clarify the effectiveness of working with students, faculty, and staff in setting a competitive standard of writing
  • Give student testimonies from alumni who have benefited from this type of partnership
  • Expand the idea of tutoring as a professional development as well as College course support
  • Expand the achievements possible from tutoring at Miami Dade College

Recording will be posted soon!
